Intense concern prevails following the arrest of five Greek Cypriots by the occupying regime in the occupied territories, with the Republic of Cyprus undertaking diplomatic actions and expressing fears of possible new arrests.

The five Greek Cypriots were brought before the so-called "military court," with the occupying authorities seeking to detain them for three months, accused of "violating a military restricted zone." One of them is additionally accused of illegal entry into the occupied territories.

The detainees' lawyer argued that his clients regularly cross the checkpoints, presenting relevant documents. He also mentioned that the cameras at the Strovilia checkpoint were not working during the inspection.

UNFICYP stated that it is aware of the detention and is providing humanitarian assistance.

The Government of the Republic of Cyprus, through the Director of the Press Office of the President, Viktor Papadopoulos, assured that all necessary actions are being taken.
