Damage to 8 Monuments from Fire in Limassol Mountain Area

Eight ancient monuments have been damaged by the recent fire in the Limassol mountain area. The Deputy Minister of Culture, Vasiliki Kassianidou, announced that she will visit the area tomorrow, Monday, along with a team from the Department of Antiquities, to assess the damage and take measures.
According to Ms. Kassianidou, the damaged sites include the watermill in the Kapsalia area in Kissousa, the medieval bridge in the Eliomylos area in Potamiou, the ruins of the early Christian period in the Hiliantris area, the ruins of the church of Agios Stylianos, the Byzantine building complex in the Aspri Moutti area, the ruins of the church of Agios Siallomi, as well as the ruins of two other churches in the Souni-Zanatjia community.
The Deputy Minister emphasized that 57 monuments, mainly churches belonging to list B, have not been damaged. She also mentioned that the Deputy Ministry will explore ways to support artists affected by the cancellation of cultural events due to the fire.
Ms. Kassianidou will meet with the community leaders and visit the monuments, starting from the Omodos Community at 09:30.
