Deneia – Astromeritis Highway: Minister of Transport Responds

The Minister of Transport, Alexis Vafeadis, stated that there is consensus for the construction of the Deneia – Astromeritis highway, following a meeting with representatives of the Morphou – Solea – Marathasa communities. The aim is to combat urban decline in mountainous areas.

Mr. Vafeadis emphasized that the highway is a project of utmost importance for the revitalization of the region. He reiterated his intention to reach a consensus on how to implement the project and will meet with the community leaders of Akaki, Peristerona, and Astromeritis regarding the route.

The Minister of Transport stressed that without the highway, mountainous Nicosia is doomed to desertification. Actions must be taken immediately to strengthen the economic resilience of the countryside and retain the population in mountainous areas.
