Minister of Agriculture Visits Fire-Affected Areas - Omodos Community Leader Satisfied

The Community Leader of Omodos, Evgenios Michael, expressed satisfaction with the pace of implementation of the measures announced by the Government following the devastating fire in mountainous Limassol. The statements were made after a meeting with the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Maria Panagiotou, and officials.

The Minister was accompanied by the fire coordinator, Andreas Grigoriou. Mr. Michael thanked the services, emphasizing the rapid implementation of the agreements since the President's announcements. He highlighted the continuous work of officials from the Department of Agriculture and the response of the Water Development Department.

Other issues were raised at the meeting, such as the cleaning of public streams and rivers, for which the communities do not have authorization. Solutions are being sought to address potential flooding in case of rain, especially in communities where the river passes through them.

In addition, the reactivation of farmers was discussed, with the acceptance of the request for an extension to allow time for the replanting of burnt vineyards and orchards. The possibility of allocating new land to young farmers or wineries, without charges, is being considered.
