Cabinet Approves Reduced Bus Fare for Students in Cyprus

The Council of Ministers has approved subsidies for student bus tickets. According to a decision by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works (ΥΜΕΕ), in cooperation with public transport service providers, the following measures have been determined as part of the state's social policy:
For the period from September 1, 2025, to August 31, 2027, the monthly student fare is set at €5, with a state subsidy of €17. The annual student fare is set at €30, with a state subsidy of €190 per student.
To issue the annual ticket, students must obtain a personalized "Motion" card, presenting a certificate of attendance or student ID.
From September 1, 2025, children from large and five-member families attending public secondary and technical education are exempt from paying fares upon presentation of a large family ID or five-member family certificate.
Beneficiaries also include minors under the care of the Social Welfare Services (ΥΚΕ), with the corresponding amounts paid by the ΥΚΕ and subsidized by the ΥΜΕΕ. Needy students and children entitled to the Minimum Guaranteed Income (ΕΕΕ) will receive a zero-value ticket.
Until September 12, 2025, students will be transported free of charge. From September 13, 2025, travel will only be permitted with a valid ticket.
