Excessive Rainfall in Cyprus During December

The average rainfall in the free areas of Cyprus was significantly higher in December, reaching 116% of the normal amount for the month, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Specifically, the average total rainfall from December 1st to January 1st amounted to 122.8 millimeters, compared to the normal value of 105.6 millimeters. However, the total rainfall from the start of the hydrological year (October 1st) to January 1st was 159.2 millimeters, representing 83% of the normal.
The highest amounts of rainfall were recorded in Polis Chrysochous (220% of normal), in the Stavros tis Psokas area (154%), at the Athalassa station in Nicosia, and in Athienou (144% for both areas).
In January, until 8:00 am on Friday, the average total rainfall was 0.1 millimeters.
