Cyprus: Patient Advocate Appointment Expected in September

The appointment of the first Patient Advocate is expected to be completed within September, according to statements by the Minister of Health, Michalis Damianos, to the Cyprus News Agency (CYPE).

Mr. Damianos assured that the institution is in the final stage of activation. He also emphasized that the supervision of the GHS (General Healthcare System) continues normally by the Ministry of Health, with the support of the same staff that staffed the Office of the former Commissioner of GHS Supervision.

The Minister of Health stated that the position of Director of the new service for supervision at the Ministry of Health has already been announced, and it has been included in the 2026 budget.

Responding to criticisms, Mr. Damianos assured that there is no lack of transparency and that supervision is proceeding as provided by law.
