The power restoration process in the fire-affected areas of the Limassol district is lengthy, according to the EAC's (Electricity Authority of Cyprus) Press Officer, Christina Papadopoulou.

Works are ongoing with 150 people and 11 excavators to open roads and install poles. By last night, 300 out of 500 burnt poles were replaced, 11 out of 50 transformers were installed, and 12 km of medium voltage overhead network was constructed.

Ms. Papadopoulou explained that the initial damage to the medium voltage overhead network is 80 km and time is required to access the areas. 200 poles that were dangerous have been removed.

The priority is the safe and rapid completion of the works. First, the medium voltage network will be set up, then the transformers will be activated, and finally the low voltage network and the connections to the properties. Properties that have not been damaged will be electrified as soon as the network is completed.

For properties that have been damaged, it will take time for a new electrical installation and connection to the network. Ms. Papadopoulou stressed that the works are carried out on mountainous terrain, making the work more difficult.
