The Commissioner for the Development of Mountainous Regions, Charalambos Christofinas, stated that schedules have been drawn up for restoration projects in the areas of mountainous Limassol affected by the July fires. The most dangerous points have been mapped, and a priority order has been set for their restoration.

According to Mr. Christofinas, the restoration schedule has been sent, and the process for the one-time payment to cover basic needs for families whose permanent residences have been damaged has been completed. Payments will begin immediately after approvals from the EOA.

Instructions have been given for the restoration of the road network, with emphasis on critical points, and work is expected to begin immediately in September. The study for flood control projects and water protection has also been completed, and relevant interventions will begin.

Regarding the destroyed residences, ETEK has evaluated 300 cases, and the costing has been made available to the Ministry of Interior. Financial assistance will be paid in installments, depending on the extent of the damage.

For buildings without a permit, time has been given until the end of the year to submit a permit application. Social Welfare programs continue, with the Social Welfare Services having examined over 250 cases.

The Department of Forests is planning the reforestation of burned areas in cooperation with the communities. Experts will continue to visit the communities to assist in the restoration.
