Starting today, Friday, October 3, 2025, the suspension of the Certificate of Roadworthiness (MOT) comes into effect for thousands of vehicles in Cyprus that have not replaced defective Takata airbags.

The suspension affects vehicles for which the 8-month deadline set by Circular 8/2025 in February has passed. Approximately 16,900 vehicles are affected, despite extensive awareness campaigns.

Owners can check the recall deadline for their vehicle on the Ministry of Transport's website: www.gov.cy/mtcw.

Toyota and Honda have the highest number of non-responses.

The Department of Road Transport (TOM) clarified that no extension will be granted unless an appointment has been scheduled within October 2025, with a final deadline of October 31, 2025.

Owners of vehicles for people with disabilities are urged to contact TOM immediately to arrange an appointment.
