J.Virkunen: Ran the Nicosia Marathon and Visited the Green Line

European Commission Executive Vice-President, J. Virkunen, participated in the Nicosia Marathon in Cyprus, on the sidelines of the official visit of the College of Commissioners. More than eight thousand runners took part in the event.

Ms. Virkunen, finished the 42 km marathon in 4 hours, 16 minutes and 37 seconds. As she stated to euronews, she enjoyed the route and found the weather ideal.

She has run in about 15 marathons, including the authentic Athens Marathon in 2017. She is responsible for technological sovereignty, security and democracy.

During her stay in Nicosia, Ms. Virkunen visited the Green Line, emphasizing the importance of the experience and understanding the challenges faced by the divided city. "Cyprus knows what security means," she said regarding geopolitical tensions.

This week, Ms. Virkunen will participate in the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
