Targeted improvement works at Cyprus Prisons are expected to be implemented within 3 to 6 months, according to the Minister of Justice and Public Order, Kostas Fytiris. The aim is to ensure the smooth operation, enhance security, and improve the living conditions of inmates until the prisons are relocated.

During a meeting with the Directors of the Department of Public Works, the Electromechanical Service, and the Directorate of Central Prisons, clear implementation schedules were set for the projects. The Minister instructed continuous monitoring of the progress of the works.

The projects include the renovation of medical facilities, the creation of a new entrance exclusively for prison staff, the construction of a new clothing storage, the creation of a new medical facility in the Open Prisons, the construction of a new laundry area, and the implementation of a mobile phone jamming system.

In addition, the procurement and utilization of an electronic monitoring system has been initiated, aiming to expand the possibilities for conditional release of convicts, while ensuring public safety.
