Varoshiotou: Request to Recuse Judges β Decision in September

The hearing of Doria Varoshiotou's objection regarding the termination of her service as a judge of the District Court of Lemesos will continue in September. The case began today at the Supreme Constitutional Court, which convenes as the Supreme Constitutional Judicial Council.
Ms. Varoshiotou's lawyer, Achilleas Dimitriadis, requested the recusal of three members of the court: President Antonis Liatsos, Tefkros Economou, and Nikolas Santis. Mr. Dimitriadis argued that the composition of the Council is 'flawed' because its members appointed Ms. Varoshiotou to her position and expressed views on issues that will be judged.
The Court adjourned, and Mr. Liatsos stated that the issue is serious and a decision cannot be made immediately. The hearing will continue in September, on a date to be announced.
Polys Polyviou, the lawyer for the Supreme Judicial Council, stated that the Court has a duty to decide.
