The Department of Road Transport (TOM) in Cyprus is reassuring the public regarding airbags replaced after the TAKATA scandal, affirming that the new airbags are approved. The statement follows concerns about Chinese airbags found in the US, which could cause injuries upon explosion.

Giorgos Loukas, director of TOM, told REPORTER that there is no indication these airbags were used in the EU. TOM has contacted importers and sellers to ensure they have not distributed these airbags.

Regarding pending TAKATA replacements, Mr. Loukas mentioned that slightly more than six thousand remain. The police investigation into the TAKATA scandal is ongoing, with depositions having started last November.
