The Department of Forests reminds the public that camping in state forests without a permit is illegal and punishable under the Forest Law.

Penalties include imprisonment of up to one year or a fine of up to €5,000.00, or both.

Especially during the summer months, unauthorized camping is observed in areas such as the Akamas National Forest Park, causing pollution and environmental degradation.

Lighting fires in the countryside is prohibited, except in designated areas. According to the Forests (Amendment) Law of 2025, lighting fires within state forests is punishable by imprisonment of up to 12 years or a fine of up to €100,000.00.

Camping is only permitted in designated camping areas.

In case of smoke or fire, call 1407 (Department of Forests) or 112 (Fire Service).
