Positive Progress in Resolving Issues at Larnaca Port

Significant progress is being made in implementing agreements between workers at Larnaca Port and the Cyprus Ports Authority regarding health and safety issues. This was announced by the General Secretaries of the trade unions ΣΕΓΔΑΜΕΛΙΝ-ΠΕΟ and ΟΜΕΠΕΓΕ – ΣΕΚ to ΚΥΠΕ, following a meeting with the Authority's management.
The General Secretary of ΣΕΓΔΑΜΕΛΙΝ-ΠΕΟ, Natia Kyritsi, stated that positive steps forward are being observed. The progress of health and safety issues was discussed, with improvements in hygiene conditions, cleaning works, and upgrades to the weighing stations. The members of the Health and Safety Committee have also been appointed.
The Safety Committee will meet in early February, and a new meeting is scheduled for March 3 at the Cyprus Ports Authority offices in Nicosia. The aim is to review progress and ensure employee satisfaction.
The General Secretary of ΟΜΕΠΕΓΕ - ΣΕΚ, Charalambos Augusti, confirmed that the assessment of the agreement's implementation shows a positive trend. A meeting has been set for March 3 to ensure the remaining agreements are implemented.
Mr. Augusti expressed hope that health and safety issues at the port would no longer be a cause for concern.
