Power Outage Continues to Cause Problems in Occupied Territories

Power supply problems continue in the occupied territories following an explosion at a transformer center in occupied Nikitas Morphou. Despite announcements of restoration, there are reports of instability in the power supply.

The total outage was caused by an explosion at 5 am. The 'electricity authority' announced that the problematic center was isolated and power supply began to be provided to areas, however, Turkish Cypriot media report that there is no stability in the power supply, creating problems for businesses and shops.

The 'social insurance department' stated that the system was not working due to the power outage. Problems also occurred at water supply stations.

Dalman Aydin stated that power had been restored to a large part of Nicosia and Kyrenia, while efforts are also being made in Morphou and Famagusta. Ahmet Tugcu stated that the cause of the explosion was poorly maintained air conditioners.

The 'Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Electrical Engineers' called for urgent action due to infrastructure problems. Arslan Bitsiackli called for the resignation of the 'board of directors' of the 'electricity authority' and the 'government'. Both the 'chamber' and the trade unionist emphasized the lack of investment and maintenance.
