Education Minister Meets PSEM After Strike Announcement

An emergency meeting took place between the Minister of Education, Athena Michaelidou, and the leadership of PSEM, following the announcement of a two-hour strike from classes. Three main issues concerning school conditions were discussed at the meeting.
Ms. Michaelidou emphasized that the Ministry and students share a common goal of improving schools and are working towards this direction. She pointed out that the installation of air conditioners and the upgrading of buildings improve teaching and learning conditions.
According to the Minister, the three issues discussed were the installation of air conditioners, the possibility of students wearing shorts, and the upgrading of infrastructure. Ms. Michaelidou explained that funds for air conditioners have been committed and that inspections will be carried out before they are put into operation. She also reminded of the circular regarding shorts and referred to the three-year infrastructure planning.
PSEM had announced a two-hour strike protesting the conditions in schools, non-functioning air conditioners, and inadequate infrastructure. The students reported that the situation in schools is tragic and that the infrastructure is in poor condition.
