Driving School Associations: Driver Licensing is TOM's Responsibility
Share on:

Driving School Associations emphasize that the responsibility for licensing and the presence of drivers on Cyprus roads lies with the state and the drivers themselves. In a statement, the Driving School Associations P.O.E.I.O., PA.S.E.S.O., and S.I.S.O.K. expressed concern about the increase in traffic accidents and the deterioration of driving behavior.

The Associations point out that driving schools have no institutional role in approving or rejecting driver candidates. They consider it unfair to attribute responsibility to driving schools for issues exclusively controlled by the Department of Road Transport (TOM).

Furthermore, they referred to cases of driving licenses issued abroad and recognized directly by TOM, as well as drivers with licenses issued under older standards that have not been re-examined. They emphasize that the absence of a retraining mechanism is the state's responsibility.

The Associations conclude that each driver's behavior is their individual choice and does not necessarily reflect the training they received.
