Six of the 13 mobile desalination units in Moni have been put into operation, with the aim of having all of them operational by the end of the week, according to the Deputy Director of the Water Development Department, Giorgos Kazantzis.

Mr. Kazantzis stated that the activation is delayed due to problems faced by the technicians of the manufacturing company from the United Arab Emirates. Currently, six units are operating permanently and two are operating on a trial basis.

Each unit can produce approximately 1,000 cubic meters of water per day, which is channeled to the southern pipeline for the needs of the provinces of Nicosia, Larnaca, and Famagusta. The use of desalinated water will save water from the Kouris dam for the province of Limassol.

Regarding the desalination units in the province of Paphos, the first unit is in trial operation and is expected to be connected to the grid soon, while the second will begin trial operation on Monday. The larger units are expected to operate in September.

Regarding the water supply to the fire-stricken areas of mountainous Limassol, the Water Development Department provides daily assistance, despite the fact that the areas are not under its direct responsibility.

It is noted that Giorgos Kazantzis is leaving his position today, and Elena Foinikaridou is taking over.
