The Mayor of Paphos, Phaedon Phaedonos, and the Mayor of Lefkoniko, Pieris Gypsiotis, have been suspended from their duties, effective today, according to an announcement by the Ministry of Interior. This decision is pending the completion of investigations and the adjudication of cases against them.

The relevant notification will be published in an extraordinary edition of the Official Gazette of the Republic. Reportedly, Phaedon Phaedonos went to the Paphos Town Hall to collect personal belongings but did not hand over his office keys.

The Deputy Mayor of Paphos, Angelos Onisiforou, is taking over the leadership of the Municipality of Paphos. Mr. Onisiforou assured that the operation of the Municipality will continue as normal and that serving the citizens remains the top priority.

The Police continue their investigations into the allegations against the Mayor of Paphos. The cases under investigation include allegations of domestic violence and rape.

The Mayor of Lefkoniko faces charges related to domestic violence against his wife and children.
