Limassol Fires: Charred Animals and Destroyed Farms

Dozens of charred animals and burned farms are the grim toll of the fires in mountainous Limassol. According to senior veterinary officer Apostolos Mazeri, 50 dead farm animals have been found so far, and the count is ongoing.
In the area affected by the fires, such as Pano Kyvides, Agios Ambrosios, Agios Therapon, and Lofou, there is significant livestock activity, mainly with approximately 15,000 sheep and goats.
In addition to sheep and goats, there are also 6-7 cattle units in the affected areas. Furthermore, there are serious impacts on beekeeping, as there are beekeepers in the area, without an accurate picture yet of the damage caused to the hives.
Mr. Mazeri also mentioned that companion animals were affected, with several cases reaching veterinary clinics, according to the president of the Pancyprian Veterinary Association.
The Veterinary Services are immediately removing dead animals from farms, while actions will be taken for injured animals depending on the severity of the injuries, even euthanasia if deemed necessary.
