Several communities in the Limassol district are taking action following the devastating fire that struck the area, destroying homes, properties, and crops, and claiming two lives.

The Doros community has created an "Emergency" channel on a mobile application for immediate resident updates. The Eurychou community held an emergency meeting with representatives from the Fire Department, the Forestry Department, and volunteers to manage fire risk. In Kato Mylos, residents were asked to clean their plots and abandoned homes.

The president of the Limassol Communities Union, Lefteris Perikli, stated that these actions should have been taken before the fire. He stressed the need for daily cleanliness and the responsibility of residents, as well as the difficulties faced by community leaders in controlling the situation.

Mr. Perikli emphasized the need for strictness and state support, as well as the need for better equipment for the communities. He also expressed concern about reports of exploitation for the purpose of compensation from the state, such as false messages and attempts to cause damage.

He referred to cases where residents are trying to receive compensation for damages that did not exist or for uninhabited houses, emphasizing the need for controls and transparency.
