Warning: Sea Anemones in Protaras – Treatment Tips

A mother expressed concern on social media after her child was stung by a sea anemone at Protaras beach. According to her post, her child's foot swelled up and they couldn't put weight on it, leaving a burn-like mark.
Ms. Yianna Samouil, Fisheries and Marine Research Officer, explained to OMEGAlive that anemones are attached to rocks and their sting can be painful. They cause irritation, itching, or inflammation.
Caution is advised regarding where you step, swim, and touch, as anemones are mainly found in rocky areas. In case of a sting, immediately exit the sea and use antihistamine cream if allergic, or contact your doctor. If a tentacle sticks to the body, remove it with an object.
Ms. Samouil emphasized that anemones are part of the marine ecosystem and should not be removed.
