Warning: New Year's Day with Strong Winds and Rain

Low pressure and strong winds are affecting Cyprus on New Year's Day. According to the Department of Meteorology, the weather will be partly to mostly cloudy with isolated showers, mainly in the west, north, and mountainous areas. An isolated thunderstorm is also possible.
Snow or sleet is expected on the highest peaks of Troodos. The winds will be westerly to northwesterly, initially 4 to 5 Beaufort, soon 6 Beaufort and temporarily locally 7 Beaufort. A gradual weakening of the winds is expected late in the afternoon.
The sea will be rough, and temporarily very rough in the north and west. The temperature will rise to 14 degrees Celsius inland, 17 degrees Celsius on the coast, and 3 degrees Celsius in the higher mountains.
On Friday and Saturday, the weather will be mainly clear with temporarily increased cloud cover. On Sunday, increased high clouds will be observed. The temperature will drop on Friday, but a gradual rise is expected until Sunday.
