Support for āImagineā Program Restart in Cyprus
The Association for Historical Dialogue and Research (AHDR) held an event to relaunch the āImagineā program, with the participation of the Mayor of Nicosia, Charalambos Prountzos, and Mehmet Harmancı, from occupied Nicosia. The event took place on Friday, January 9, with over 200 participants from both communities.
Mr. Prountzos and Harmancı expressed their support for āImagine,ā emphasizing its importance in cultivating critical thinking and creating foundations for peace and reconciliation in Cyprus. Mehmet Harmancı stated that acquaintance between the communities is necessary to achieve peace and solidarity.
Charalambos Prountzos thanked the teachers who participated in the program and expressed hope for cooperation between the communities, starting with children. The event featured the video āLetās Imagine Together!ā, a collaboration between AHDR and the production company Neydi OlacaÄı.
The āImagineā program has involved over 8,200 students and 2,600 teachers, offering workshops on peace and human rights. The Director of AHDR, Loizos Loukaidis, emphasized the importance of continuing the work despite political difficulties.
The co-chairs of the AHDR Board of Directors, Kyriakos Pachoulides and Hale Silifkeli, stated that āImagineā demonstrated the potential of education to bridge communities.
