A mobile desalination unit in the Potima area became operational today, Monday, to provide potable water. The temporary unit will initially produce 2,000 cubic meters of water per day, and is expected to produce more than 10,000 cubic meters per day in a few weeks when fully operational.

The president of the Paphos Water Board, Charalambos Pittokopitis, expressed his satisfaction with the timely operation of the unit and thanked the company that undertook the project, the Water Development Department, the District Engineer of the Water Development Department of Paphos, Charis Kasioulis and his staff, as well as the Ministry of Agriculture and Minister Maria Panagiotou.

The unit has already been connected to the water supply of the Pegeia and Kissonerga apartments. Additional units are expected in September and October. Mr. Pittokopitis stated that with these additions and the operation of the unit in Kouklia, the water problem of Paphos will be solved.

Regarding reports of water theft, some cases have been confirmed, and instructions have been given to stop the illegal supply and report it to the Police.

Mr. Kasioulis appealed for a reduction in water wastage, while studies for the restoration of the Mavrokolympos dam have been completed and are expected to be implemented in September.
