Orange Alert: Temperatures up to 44 degrees Celsius on Saturday

The Department of Meteorology has issued an orange alert for extreme maximum temperatures on Saturday. The warning is in effect from midnight until 5 p.m. on Saturday.

The minimum temperature is expected to drop to 29 degrees Celsius inland, 25 on the west coast and higher mountains. The maximum temperature is expected to rise to 44 degrees Celsius inland and 34 in the higher mountains.

According to Meteorological Officer Panagiotis Mouskos, the weather will remain largely unchanged until Sunday, with winds not exceeding 5 Beaufort. No significant change in the weather is expected at least until Sunday.

Yesterday, Friday, the highest temperature recorded was 42.5 degrees Celsius. The probability of the mercury rising to 45 degrees is small.
