Paphos: Solution Sought for Water Distribution to Farmers

The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Maria Panayiotou, met with a delegation from the Banana Growers Association in Paphos on June 29, 2025, to discuss resolving the issue of irrigation water distribution.

Ms. Panayiotou emphasized that farmers are a priority for the Government and referred to the planning for increasing desalination units in Paphos and Limassol. "A permanent solution to the water issue is the only way forward," she stated.

Measures were decided, such as increasing the amount of water for banana growers in July and August, within the overall limits, and cooperation to avoid exceeding consumption. The ΤΑΥ will monitor compliance with the agreements.

The gradual improvement of the irrigation system will begin in 2026.
