The devastating wildfire in the mountainous Limassol region has left behind two fatalities and 125 square kilometers of scorched earth, causing incalculable material and emotional damage. Fifteen communities were affected, with residents witnessing the destruction of their properties.

CY News Agency (KYΠΕ) recorded testimonies from fire victims, with the community leader of Malia, Marilena Athini, reporting that the fire started on the road to Arsos and not by accident. Ms. Athini emphasized that a fire had broken out at the same spot two weeks prior.

The community leader described the dramatic moments of the evacuation of Lofou, with the help of the Head of Rescue of the Civil Defense, Michalis Mouskallis. Together, they evacuated residents and children from the flames.

A resident of Souni-Zanatzia, Chris Havariyoun, reported that he was told to leave his home, which suffered damage, as did his vehicle.

The owner of the "Linos" winery in Omodos, Giorgos Linos, stated that the fire affected 80% of the wine-producing villages' production, as the grapes have been altered by the heat. The chapel of Agios Ioannis of Russia in Vouni was completely destroyed.

The solidarity among citizens was evident, with many offering assistance and basic necessities.
