Cyprus: Over 1 Million Crossings at Checkpoints in Two Months

High levels of crossings of people and vehicles through checkpoints across Cyprus continue. According to police statistics, in the last two months (July 1 – August 26), more than 1 million citizens, Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, made crossings.

Specifically, 244,129 Greek Cypriots crossed from the free to the occupied areas, while 260,935 Turkish Cypriots made the opposite journey. From the occupied to the free areas, 231,447 Greek Cypriots and 298,906 Turkish Cypriots traveled.

In total, 475,576 Greek Cypriots and 559,841 Turkish Cypriots crossed the checkpoints, reaching 1,035,417 person crossings. In addition, 297,490 vehicle movements with Greek Cypriot license plates and 240,536 with Turkish Cypriot plates were recorded.
