Bus Drivers Protest Traffic Cameras, Citing Safety Concerns

Bus drivers are staging protests on Friday, objecting to penalties imposed by traffic camera systems for crossing the white line at traffic lights. They claim drivers risk losing their licenses and jobs.
According to EMEL Development and Communications Director, Petros Theocharidis, drivers are penalized with fines and penalty points, potentially leading to license revocation. He emphasized that sudden braking to avoid violations is dangerous for passengers, especially those standing.
The drivers propose measures such as installing warning signs or countdown timers before the red light. The Ministry of Transport has been informed about the issue, but no response has been received so far.
The work stoppage by the drivers, members of OMEPEGE – SEK and SEGDAMELIN – PEO, will take place on Friday, March 27, between 09:00 and 11:00.
