OKYpY has inaugurated the new Accident and Emergency Department (A&E) at Larnaca General Hospital, aiming to improve services and reduce waiting times. The new A&E features modern facilities and upgraded equipment.

According to the head of the A&E, Maro Kliridou, 122 patients were examined during the first 24 hours of operation. The number of beds has increased to 15, and is expected to reach 24 after the completion of the second phase. Examination rooms, the pediatric department, the triage area, and the rapid patient transfer room have also been completed.

In the second phase, two additional examination rooms, trauma and resuscitation rooms will be created. The new A&E is staffed by experienced medical, nursing, and support staff, and two new doctors are expected to be hired, bringing the total number to 14.

The entrance to the A&E has been moved to the north side of the old building, to the area where patients with COVID-19 entered during the pandemic. A Rapid Patient Transfer Clinic has also been operating on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays since July 18.
