New Decree on Foot-and-Mouth Disease Measures in Cyprus

A new decree concerning measures against foot-and-mouth disease was issued on March 12th by the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, under the Animal Health Laws of 2001 to 2023.

The decree includes additional provisions and prohibitions regarding the movement of materials such as wool and manure, provisions for the slaughter of animals from affected zones, the shearing of cloven-hoofed animals, and a new date for the harvesting and transport of animal feed.

Restrictions remain in place regarding the movement and grazing of cloven-hoofed animals, the movement of animal feed, and visits to farms in affected zones. The competent Authority defines the zones where the measures apply.

Non-compliance is punishable by a fine of up to €5,000. The new decree replaces the previous one of March 5th, 2026.
