Mesa Paphos: Only 30 Residents Remain in the Community
Share on:

Only 30 residents remain in the community of Mesa in Paphos in the last decade, according to the president of the Mesa Community Council, Periklis Masakaris. The community once had at least 260 residents.

Mr. Masakaris stated that the biggest problem is urbanization. The community does not have a school or a cafe, and new couples do not live in the village. He also expressed his complaint that water from the area was transferred to Kokkinochoria.

Encouraging is the transition of expatriate Mesanians to the community on weekends and holidays. The community is located at an altitude of 560 meters and has four lodgings that are full all year round. Mesa belongs to the wine villages of the Paphos province and produces traditional wine.

In addition to wine, zivania, palouzes, and soutzoukos are also produced for own use. Cereals, almonds, citrus fruits, legumes, and olives thrive in the village.
