Limassol: Lifeguard Towers Understaffed, Operating at Reduced Capacity
Share on:

Concerns are rising in Limassol due to the understaffing of lifeguard towers. According to statements by the Deputy District Officer of Limassol, Hlektra Panagiotou, only 16 of the 26 lifeguard towers are operational, with only 43 of the 79 approved lifeguard positions filled.

Ms. Panagiotou stated that despite the reduction in required lifeguard medals, the response remains low. She pointed out a particular problem at Governor's Beach, where no lifeguard tower is operational.

Additionally, the British Bases have requested the staffing of the second tower at Ladies Mile. The lack of interest is attributed, among other things, to Brexit and the preference for working in hotel pools.

The District Administration is also facing difficulties in staffing towers for early morning swimmers, as there is a need for operation from 6:30 AM at Olympion Beach and Kourion Beach.
