According to a survey by the Limassol District Self-Government Organisation (EOA), 60% of the houses affected by the recent fire in mountainous Limassol do not have building permits. Of the 710 buildings that were burned or damaged, only 293 have a confirmed permit.

Specifically:

  • 104 buildings have no permit at all.
  • For 221 buildings, there is insufficient data.
  • 293 buildings have a confirmed permit.
  • 49 buildings have a planning permit but no building permit.

The EOA will contact the owners of the 221 cases to collect more information. Those who do not have the necessary permits will be asked to submit documents for legalization in order to receive compensation from the government. Owners with full permits will receive full compensation, while those without permits will receive 25%.
