Lemesos: Solar Panel Disconnections Due to Overproduction
Share on:

Solar panels in households in Lemesos were disconnected from the grid for two hours, starting at 11:20 AM, following instructions from the Transmission System Operator, due to electricity overproduction.

According to Charis Zavallis, Assistant Director of System Operation at DSMK, the disconnection was done to maintain the balance of production and demand. This is the second time this has happened this summer.

Mr. Zavallis stated that these cuts are the last resort, but are expected to intensify from mid-October, when demand will be lower. First, production from conventional units is reduced, then cuts are made to large commercial RES systems, and finally to domestic solar panels.

The phenomenon is expected to continue as long as there are no energy storage systems.
