The Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts has proposed the establishment of a committee to monitor the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in schools. The proposal was submitted by former Minister of Education Andreas Dimitriou and University of Cyprus AI professor Antonis Kakas during their informal presentation to the Education Committee.

Andreas Dimitriou stated that the committee will recommend the integration of AI at all levels of education, from kindergarten to university. He also mentioned that a conference on the topic will be held in the fall.

Professor Kakas emphasized the importance of reading and strengthening the human mind through reading and discussing texts. Chairman of the Education Committee Pavlos Mylonas stated that the committee fully adopted the proposal to establish a committee from the Academy of Arts and Letters, the Ministry of Education, and the Parliament.

DIKO MP Alekos Tryfonidis expressed concerns about the intrusion of AI into schools and the potential risks for students.
