Cyprus: Double Heatwave Warning – Yellow and Orange Alerts Issued

The Meteorological Department has issued a double warning for extreme high temperatures in Cyprus. Following a yellow alert for Saturday night, an orange alert has been issued for Sunday.
The yellow alert is in effect from 22:00 on Saturday to 09:00 on Sunday, with minimum temperatures around 26 degrees Celsius inland and along the coast, and 24 degrees in the higher mountains.
The orange alert will be in effect from 11:00 to 17:00 on Sunday, with maximum temperatures expected to reach 43 degrees inland and 34 degrees in the mountains.
Meteorological officer, Matthaios Papadakis, stated that temperatures will be significantly above the average climatological values for the season and that Cyprus has not experienced such temperatures for so many days.
The Civil Defence recommends avoiding unnecessary travel, heavy physical work, sunbathing, and overcrowding. It also recommends cool clothing, hats, sunglasses, light meals, plenty of water, and avoiding alcohol.
The Department of Forests warns that the risk of fire is at a 'Red Alert' level on Sunday, calling on the public to be careful and avoid actions that could cause a fire. In case of smoke or fire, call 1407 or 112.
