Cyprus: Awaiting Two Air Tractors – Contacts with Jordan

Preparations are underway for the fire season in Cyprus. Chief Fire Officer Nikos Logginos stated that the Fire Service is ready to deal with fires and other crises, such as drone incidents.
Mr. Logginos, the interim National Coordinator, stated that with the enactment of legislation on civil protection, the Fire Service will fall under the Ministry of Interior. This year, aircraft are expected earlier, with four Air Tractors arriving on April 1st. From May 1st, three Air Tractors will be operational, with others gradually being added.
In addition to the Air Tractors, three more aircraft are expected on April 1st, bringing the total number to seven. There is a delay with the four helicopters due to a company appeal, but a solution is expected by April 15th. The government is in contact with the Jordanian royal family regarding the two Jordanian Air Tractors, hoping they will be available soon.
Mr. Logginos also referred to the deadly fire in mountainous Lemesos, stressing that there is always room for improvement. The Fire Service has already started contacts with community leaders to inform them about the fire season.
