Cyprus: EU to Provide 500,000 Foot-and-Mouth Disease Vaccines

The Minister of Agriculture, Maria Panayiotou, met with Commissioners Olivér Várhelyi and Janusz Wojciechowski in Brussels, on the sidelines of the Agriculture and Fisheries Council, regarding the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Cyprus.
The Minister requested financial assistance and the immediate commencement of vaccination, with a positive response to both requests. Commissioner Várhelyi confirmed that the EU will provide 500,000 vaccines to Cyprus, and the transfer process will begin immediately.
According to the Minister, the process will begin within the week. The meeting with Commissioner Wojciechowski also focused on crisis management tools.
More than 25 units have been affected by foot-and-mouth disease, and the culling of animals has begun.
