Yellow Alert Issued for Strong Thunderstorms on Thursday

The Department of Meteorology expects local rain and isolated thunderstorms in Cyprus from tonight until Sunday. A yellow alert for strong thunderstorms is almost certain to be issued tomorrow, mainly for the interior and mountainous areas, according to the official of the Department of Meteorology, Andreas Chatzigeorgiou.
A low barometric pressure system centered in northern Egypt is moving towards the area and is expected to affect Cyprus from tonight, initially bringing isolated rain and later local rain with a chance of thunderstorms. After the first system, a new disturbance will follow from the west, which will affect the area from Friday to Sunday.
From Friday to Sunday, unstable weather conditions are expected, with occasional local rain and isolated thunderstorms. Snow or sleet may fall on the highest peaks of Troodos.
A warning has already been issued for the coasts of Cyprus, mainly addressed to fishermen, for very strong northeast to east winds.
