Keratea: Fire Behavior Explosive Due to Strong Winds

The next few hours are critical for the major fire in Keratea, which started on Friday (August 8) in Togani. According to meteo.gr, the fire weather conditions will remain unfavorable at least until 19:00–20:00, hindering firefighting efforts.

The strong northerly winds, combined with the topography, are leading to explosive fire behavior, especially in areas with dense vegetation. A slight improvement is expected late at night (5-6 Beaufort), before a new deterioration on Saturday morning (August 9).

A small and temporary improvement is expected in the evening hours of Friday, August 8, 2025 (21:00/22:00) until the early morning hours of Saturday, August 9, 2025 (01:00/02:00), while a renewed strengthening of the winds (7-8 Beaufort) is expected in the morning hours of Saturday. The winds will remain particularly strong in areas with difficult topography.
