Kenan Ayaz: Case Continues at ECHR

The case of Kurdish activist Kenan Ayaz continues at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), according to his lawyer, Efstathios Efstathiou.
Speaking to CNA, Mr. Efstathiou stated that despite Ayaz's release after 3.5 years, the case remains open at the ECHR. "His release is an important development and step, but it is not the end of the Kurdish people's case. The case of Kenan Ayaz continues to be pending at the ECHR, and his full vindication remains the goal," he said.
The appeal to the ECHR concerns issues of fair trial and the right to freedom of assembly and association. A decision is expected soon on whether it will be accepted.
Kenan Ayaz retains the international protection status granted to him by the Republic of Cyprus, and his residence permit has been renewed.
Mr. Efstathiou emphasized that Ayaz continues his struggle for a free Cyprus and a free Kurdistan, while monitoring developments in northeastern Syria.
