Defrocking of Archimandrite and Deacon of Tamasos Metropolis

The six-member Synodal Court has decided to defrock Archimandrite Barnabas Chrysanthou and Deacon Raphael Misiaoulis, clergymen of the Holy Metropolis of Tamasos. The decision, reached by majority vote, leads to their return to the ranks of monks due to canonical offenses.

The decision of the Synodal Court came after studying the findings of the investigative committee, the evidentiary material, the indictments of the ecclesiastical prosecutor, examination of defense witnesses, and the defendants' apologies.

The case is related to the scandal of Avvakoum Monastery in Fterikoudi, Pitsilia.
