Karavas: Allegations of Demolition of Historic Buildings

The Municipality of Karavas has denounced the demolition of historic buildings in the occupied town, expressing outrage at the "illegal actions directly against historical memory." According to a statement, the mansion of Grigoris Hatzilambrou, former Mayor of Karavas (1908–1926), was demolished.
The Municipality states that the demolition is a continuation of previous destructions, such as the house of the family of G. Poyiatzis (Kontylis) and the mansion of Lefteris Hatzistefanou, emphasizing that this is a deliberate attempt to alter the historical presence of the residents.
It is noted that Turkish Cypriot residents are also protesting the destructions. The Municipality of Karavas called on the United Nations, the European Union, and international organizations to take responsibility and intervene to stop the cultural looting.
"Until the day we return to our homes and our land, in conditions of freedom, justice and dignity, we declare that we will not be silent and we will not forget," the statement concludes.
