Quarantine in Livadia, Larnaca Due to Foot-and-Mouth Disease
The Veterinary Services have quarantined a livestock area in Livadia, Larnaca province, following the detection of a case of foot-and-mouth disease in a cattle breeding unit.
The cordoned-off area extends to a radius of three kilometers, with prohibitive signs and warning signs placed. The movement of animals and livestock products is prohibited without permission.
The competent Authorities are planning the culling of animals in the infected unit. Owners of adjacent establishments have been informed of a possible extension of measures in case of new cases.
An emergency meeting was held with the Minister of Agriculture, Maria Panayiotou, to review the management protocol and additional measures.
The Veterinary Services assure that there is no reason for concern regarding human health and the consumption of livestock products.
