Samaria Gorge: Closed on Monday Due to Bad Weather

The Samaria Gorge will be closed to visitors on Monday, October 6, 2025, due to predicted heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. The decision was made by the Hellenic Organisation for Natural Environment and Climate Change (OFYPEKA), taking into account the updated EMY (Hellenic National Meteorological Service) bulletin.
According to the announcement, the predicted rainfall in the Xyloskalo and Agia Roumeli areas exceeds the approved limits for the operation of the gorge. Meteorologists predict a gradual deterioration of the weather from the evening, with rain, thunderstorms, gale-force northerly winds, a drop in temperature, and local hailstorms, due to the weather phenomenon "Barbara". Special attention is required in Chania.
Giorgos Tsatrafyllias reported that the areas that will receive the highest rainfall are western Greece, Chania, Macedonia, Thrace, and the islands of the northern Aegean. The temperature is expected to drop by up to 8 degrees Celsius by Wednesday.
