Controversy Surrounds White Coast Expansion in Milos

Strong reactions have emerged regarding the expansion of the White Coast hotel complex in Mytakas, Milos. According to a report by protothema.gr, the expansion is taking place on grassland, within a zone designated as a wildlife refuge and outside the city plan.
A government official, speaking to protothema.gr, emphasized that even if building permits have been issued, they are irregular, as it concerns the construction of large facilities in a protected area. Furthermore, the White Coast plot does not adjoin an approved road.
The project file contains negative opinions from the Directorate of Agricultural Economy of the Cyclades Regional Unit and the Environment Committee of the Municipality of Milos. The Municipal Council of Milos has unanimously rejected the Environmental Impact Study.
At the same time, the Transparency Authority has pointed out violations in administrative acts related to the construction of residences in Sarakiniko, Milos, emphasizing the need to protect architectural and cultural heritage.
The Mayor of Milos, Manolis Mikelis, stated that the responsibility lies not only with the Municipality, but also with the Urban Planning Office, the Ministry of Tourism, and the project engineer. He also mentioned that legal proceedings have been initiated and audits have been requested from the Transparency Authority.
The Mayor of Santorini, Anastasios Nikolaos Zorzοs, has sent a draft proposal for strategic investments in the Cyclades, expressing his opposition to the inclusion of projects that do not have the acceptance of the local community and are not checked for their compatibility with the urban plan.
According to the initial plan, the White Coast is expected to expand significantly, increasing its capacity from 30 to 171 suites and constructing swimming pools with a total area of approximately 2,000 square meters.
